"Facebook has created a shift from online dating to social dating," said online dating expert Julie Spira.
"Facebook technically could be the world's largest dating site.
The contemplated public offering, scheduled to reach the market on January 27, 2010 was delayed by FFN.
Friend Finder had not turned a net profit since at least 2008.
The company primarily deals in adult entertainment, online dating, and social networking services.
Its flagship online dating services include Friend Finder and its various spin-off services (such as Adult Friend Finder, and other dating services targeting various territories and niche categories, such as the South America-focused Amigos.com, and Christian dating website Big Church), as well as niche websites for alternative lifestyles, and adult webcam websites.
"You can't put up a fake picture and misrepresent yourself on Facebook when you have 600 friends," said founder Justin Krause.
"This is a better system because it cuts through the crap. You can tell whether someone is legit." Traditional online matchmakers have served up a courtship process that looks a lot like online shopping: Users browse photos hoping to find something (or someone) they like, then choose a product (or person) to engage with offline.
The creators of these sites say this shift will help keep users honest and accountable for their actions, which in turn should help people find better matches, lessen the stigma attached to many matchmaker sites, and make online dating feel more like offline dating.
Ezra Shashoua, the company's chief financial officer, blamed the lower revenue on a drop in membership and increased advertising costs for affiliates, according to court documents.
Shashoua also said credit card companies had refused to process transactions for the company's Internet businesses.
Friend Finder Networks (formerly Various, Inc.) is an American internet company founded in 1996 by Andrew Conru.
Its corporate headquarters are located in Boca Raton, Florida, with additional offices in California, New York, and Taiwan.
